Honest Review – 4.1" Pro Staunton Weighted Chess Pieces

I’ve been using this 4.1" Staunton weighted set for a bit now, and I have to say it’s one of those purchases that actually feels worth it.

Board Compatibility (Important!)
I tested the pieces on two boards.
A 2 inch maple and walnut board, honestly it felt a bit cramped. The pieces look slightly crowded and do not have enough breathing room.
A 2.25 inch green board, this is where the set really shines. The proportions feel just right and everything looks much more balanced. I think it would be even better with slightly larger square sizes, unfortunately I do not have those to show.

My advice: stick to the Royal Chess Mall website’s recommended square size around 2.16 to 2.36 inches. You really cannot go wrong if you follow that. Please see the photos for board compatibility.

Storage Box
Since this is a fairly large set, it would be ideal to have a slightly bigger storage box to comfortably store everything. For reference, the storage box shown is 12.5 inch x 5.5 inch x 4 inch, which helps give a better sense of scale.

Unexpected Bonus Just Looking at Them 😄
This might sound funny, but I genuinely enjoy just looking at the pieces. Even when I am not playing, I catch myself admiring the craftsmanship. Not even joking, it is that satisfying.

Final Thoughts
A really solid set with great build quality and presence. Just make sure you pair it with the right board size to get the full experience.

I have been wanting a Staunton chess set for a long time, so finally getting this one made the whole experience feel special. The unboxing, in particular, was incredibly satisfying and memorable. This is my first set, and it definitely lived up to my expectations.

Compré mis piezas, llegaron en perfecto estado, duró un poco el envío, pero valió la pena realmente me encantó, saludos desde México

Very pleased . Lovely weight to pieces .

I purchased these for my grandson who recently made his own chess board. He was excited and extremely impressed with the quality, colour and beautiful feel of the pieces. I’m sure he is going to become a keen chess player. His woodworking skills are excellent so he will probably make his own special case to keep the pieces in pristine condition.

I am absolutely amazed at how beautiful the chess set is. I can highly recommend the chess pieces, chess board and the dealer. Greetings from Germany

This red and black version of this set is a real looker! I love it! Also, the pieces are a real pleasure to move about and the weight and quality is super. Yet another terrific set from Royal Chess Mall!

As promised and on time time. I'm very happy with it.

The quality and the shifting was just superb! Nothing more, nothing less. I'm very happy! Thank you🙂

My set arrived right on time, and very safely packed, with all the pieces, especially the king, well protected.
I was enormously impressed with the carving quality, especially the Knights where a lot of manual work is required.
I loved the good sized Rooks, and I always thought the original historical Staunton design had undersized Rooks given their actual playing value.
The extra Queens is a great touch.
Very impressed.......

Myself and my kid love the set, stunning pieces

These were exactly as advertised. Great condition and finish, the weight feels perfect when moving the pieces and has a satisfying feel when capturing opponents. Will buy again, as I gift these with my custom made chess boards.

I love this set. It's beautiful and a perfect club tournament size and look. This is best set for the money you can buy.

Been wanting to get this classic pieces forever, and now I finally have my own set. Staunton style is timeless, and these pieces from Royal Chess Mall are gorgeous!

Very happy with every aspect of this transaction

fast, efficient and great ??quality.

High quality. Fine design. Wonderful pieces.

Excellent quality Staunton style boxwood chess prices. Black prices ebonised and look like real ebony. The knights are extremely well carved. The King height at 4.1 inches is slightly taller than the standard tournament height of 3.75 inches, but the larger size looks better on my boards which have 60 mm and 57 mm squares respectively, and was exactly as I ordered. The set was better than my expectations and are well weighted. Delivery was also speedy and within the time frame given. Am very pleased with the set and would order again

My second set of theirs very satisfied

I could not be happier with this purchase. The set is exceptionally beautiful, and it is exactly as the photos and descriptions indicate it to be. Shipping was free and took only 6-days, which is impressive. The tracking service worked extremely well and accurately. Exceptional quality and value!
