This chess set is amazing. I built a custom curly maple and figured Claro walnut chess board with 2.25 inch squares. This chess set looks stunning with this size board and compliments the board. I spent a good deal on $ on the wood to make the chess board and wanted pieces to match the quality. I got exactly what I wanted and more. The price was cheaper than many sets of far inferior build. If you are thinking about getting this set, do it right away!
The chess pieces are stunning to look at and the quality is amazing. The weight distribution is perfect and they feel nice in your hand. The only flaws are that several pieces have minor imperfections like bumps (from handeling or hitting something) or unfinished splinters (the top of one of the rooks). But as said minor, if you don't look for them you won't notice.

I was a bit nervous ordering from overseas, but the knights in this set just caught my eye and I could not get them out of my head.
Other online suppliers offered the same set, but the proportions in this set just looked better.
Its really nice when you order something online and the product surpasses your expectations.

I purchased these for my grandson who recently made his own chess board. He was excited and extremely impressed with the quality, colour and beautiful feel of the pieces. I’m sure he is going to become a keen chess player. His woodworking skills are excellent so he will probably make his own special case to keep the pieces in pristine condition.

I'm glad to have this opportunity to review the set. I'm not exactly, a "collector", so spending real money on a chess set was a big leap. But as soon as the set arrived, I knew it was one of the best purchase decisions I ever made.
The set is just so beautiful! The dark pieces, "Bud Rosewood" are the richest color I've ever seen in a chess set. I do have another Rosewood set and this is a completely different experience.
In ordinary room light, the dark pieces are mysterious, almost black, much more subtle than they appear in the brightly lit photos. The pieces just cry out to be touched, lifted, and moved. The design is stable and hefty. The finish is perfect and high quality (I do follow woodworking channels and have a good eye for finishes). Though I said I'm not a collector, I do have several sets, many from decades ago, and this is now my unqualified favorite.
As far as "slightly imperfect" - someone will have to point the imperfection out to me as I have yet to find it. But I'll tell you, even at the full price of the set, it would be worth the price. Every chess set is beautiful in it's own way, but this one really knocks it out of the park.
* I'll add as a postscript that the set arrived in New York City in only 6 calendar days, and that packaging was thoughtful, thorough, and professional. This RCM is a class outfit!
The Emperor Series Staunton chess pieces weights 1600 grams! ( not 1350 grams ). My search for the perfect pieces is over!
I am lucky to get this set from the clearance. It’s such a bargain. I love the unique design of the bishops, and I really love this walnut stained color. The pieces are once again nicely crafted. Highly recommended!

This set is such an elegant masterpiece. It strikes a balance between minimalist style and details of each piece. In my humble opinion, this set may look better than the World Chess Championship set. The pieces are also very ergonomic. It feels so nice holding the piece in hand. I would dare say that this is by far the best minimalist style chess set out there.
I've been waiting for this sensor compatible set for a while, and Royal Chess Mall delivers! The chessmen are nicely crafted and finished. They are glossy and look gorgeous. I can't wait to play it on my Chessnut Pro to come.

I am very happy with my 58cm Rosewood board, 4.6 inch triple weighted set of figures and box. The feeling of playing is amazing, and even playing via app is no problem, e.g. lichess voice control, one does not need an electronic board at all. Buy a proper traditional board rather than some electronic set which stops working after 2 years.
The service is amazing, the company even agreed to take some extra postal costs and the packaging was excelllent, leaving no room for potential damage. Postage was SUPER FAST, just 1 week from sending from India to an Australian island. 5 stars, perfect.

I have previously purchased 2 magnificent chess sets from Royal Chess Mall. Those sets are highly cherished for their superior workmanship.
So I decided "to take a chance" buying one of their "slightly imperfect" sets and boy, they are as good as the regular pieces. In fact, I had to examine them individually at very close range to see even the slightest imperfection...and that was only on 3 of the pieces. This will be practically undetectable for your opponent.
No need to worry about the quality for even their slightly imperfects! I am very happy.
Took about a week from order date to get them to GA. The pieces were packaged very well. Individually wrapped with cushioned foam and all of them were in excellent condition. The weight is great, the finish is perfect, and the knights look very similar for being hand carved. Well worth the money. Very happy with purchase, I expect the pieces to last a very long time. The board in photo is 2.25" squares and I think the size of the pieces are perfect for the board.
This is the kind of chess for meticulous people.
Chess players who care about quality and aesthetique would be pleased to acquire and use these chess pieces.
The Bishop nose cut goes through the little round bit at the top, making it half a sphere rather than a sphere.
This does not make it any less beautiful as a design, but just a subjective point of view. This is the only detail I did not like.
The knight is very nicely detailed and styled. In fact, every piece is a piece of art on its own and could well be used to decorate your living room.
The size is ideal for chess players who have small hands. Would probably be especially prefered by female players. But 3" king is not small. It's just not big.
Wood quality and craft is very much appreciated. A pleasure to touch.

What an amazing set to play with the pieces are so solid and perfectly weighted They glide over the wood board.The 3.1” set is perfect for a 40mm square board, My 10 yr.old son put me in check mate with in 5min of play!!

All chessmen are not created Equal.
Some are fancy and artistic and look great on Display like contestants in a Beauty Contest. But beauty queens don't always make the best girlfriend - likewise some chessmen are just more fun to play the game.
That's these guys. Sure they look nice too, but their true beauty is in their balance and they way they FEEL in your hand as you move them around the board. Bobby Fischer clearly thought so as out of the countless sets he must have played chess with these were his #1 choice.
He had a famous set of these he kept with him to study you can spot in photos of him planning strategy.
I highly recommend these to anyone who enjoys playing chess.
I bought this Beautiful set of Chessmen solely because the Knights remind me of the set's namesake, Mikhail Tal. The expression on their face is of a Maverick, a Bad Boy, a little bit of a loose cannon who might not have been as precise and methodical as 2 of his fellow World Champions Botvinnik and Petrosian, but was a
Wizard on the chessboard skilled in the art of Attack which could unsettle and sometimes get the better of the Brainiacs. He is one of my favorite Grandmasters all time
and I always enjoy reviewing/replaying one of his games win or lose.
