I spent some time online looking for a decent chess set. The Zadar design stood out for its simplicity and clarity. The knight sold it for me: a simple stylised horse's head, unlike so many other designs that try to make the horse look realistic or heroic – and fail. No other chess piece gets treated that way, so why the knight?
The Zadar pieces feel good in the hand, and the weighting keeps them upright even if you tip them to quite a steep angle. The finish is good, but possibly not as smooth as the pictures suggest. That's why I've given four stars rather than five. Apart from that minor gripe, I'm pleased with my purchase.
I am a chess collector and these pieces are amongst my favorite pieces. Not only extremely aesthetically made, they are also very nice to play with. Some slight inaccuracies in sizing between the pieces but royalchessmall’s costumer’s service is very professional. Some chessmen are for displaying - these are for playing. My go-to pieces when things go down Saturday afternoon. Will buy again.
