I purchased the stained mahogany set, my first chess set from RCM, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The craftmanship and the finish are top- notched. The weights are perfect and are lovely to handle. They look great on 57 mm and 60 mm boards (I prefer the larger squares). I wish RCM would offer the box boards of the original sets. That would certainly complement these pieces. I purchased the pieces only but RCM included a nice cloth bag which I did not expect. This satisfied customer appreciates the nice touch.
This 1950’s Dubrovnik reproduction is incredible and an almost exact representation of the original 1950’s set. I feel this is one of the absolute best reproductions available and at a great price. You can thank YouTube’s “Random Chess Talk” for leading me to your store! :)
I purchased the mahogany-stained set and it looks so much like the original I was smiling from ear-to-ear for just about every piece as I unpacked! The buffing gives the pieces such a soft, satin glow and the overall craftsmanship is just beautiful. With a few nuanced differences, the Knight is very well done and bold. I appreciate the deference that Royal Chess Mall made to the chess community in changing the design of the Rook to better reflect the look of the 1950’s rook.
Not to overstate it, but these pieces are beautiful, honoring of the 1950’s version, and makes me proud to own a respectful reproduction of a piece of 20th century chess history.
These are exactely the pieces i wanted to have. In shape and look they are coming the nearest to the originals or better to what nowadays pieces should look like by copying " The Dubrovnik 1950" . The originals have been smaller, yes, these are a little larger, thats good. The originals were unweighted, these pieces are, thats good,too. So overall, this is the best chess set i personally could imagine to have. And the antiqued boxwood color is, what i was looking for and it's what make it at least 30% more beautiful than natural boxwood.
I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of the pieces, especially considering they came from such a distant location. The delivery was impressively fast, too. I’d definitely recommend this store to others. What stood out most to me was the excellent finishing and the solid thickness of each piece. From the king to the rook, every piece was crafted beautifully—truly great work.
Pieces are top class. The weight and finish is perfect. Delivery was super quick to the UK given where they came from. I don’t know if I’ll ever need another set but if I do, this is where I’ll be buying it.

I’m 72 yrs. And always wanted a beautiful chess set. Well I found it at chess mall in a 1950 Dubrovnik set. The careful packaging was outstanding. The quality of the piece are truly exquisite craftsmanship. It has become a center piece of my man cave.

This is my fourth Dubrovnik from Royal Chess Mall. At the writing of this review I have the Mahogany stained, Mahogany stained unweighted, and I rolled the dice and got an Imperfect Mahogany stained. For the record, the Imperfect, other than a shade lighter stain on a couple pawns, is perfectly fine even by my high standards. To continue, though. As always, arrived safe and sound due to the excellent prep work prior to the set being sent. The antique/ebonized chess pieces are simply beautiful. The antique isn’t that mustard yellow like from some companies and the ebonized is likewise very pleasing to the eye. Form and function are flawless, one of the reasons this is my fourth set I have invested in. The 25% discount offered at the time would have swayed any doubts, not that I had any to begin with. Overall, another successful transaction and completely satisfied customer. Thank you, Royal Chess Mall.
