Our 4.5" full brass metal chess pieces are a reproduction of 1849 series Original Staunton Chess Pieces designed by famous wood turner John Jacques. This design is considered as the Gold Standard for collectors and chess players worldwide. No collection can be considered complete without a set of this design.
Each piece of this design follows a defined grammar. The sturdy rooks are designed to look like solid castles with impregnable walls, pawns are made to look minimalist with slim collars, bishops with simple mitres, the tall elegant king readily distinguished by its cross and the queen has a distinctive coronet.
Showstoppers of the set, Knights are inspired by the horses in the Elgin Marbles from the Athenian Parthenon.
These exquisitely crafted chessmen make for an excellent gift any chess connoisseur or anyone looking for a beautiful show piece for their library or living room.

This is the nicest chess set Ive ever seen. The pieces are heavy and weighted well. They are very stable on a board. There are some slight imperfections though I would expect this from a hand made item, and these add to the authenticity. Im very happy with this purchase and have no hesitation recommending it.

I was surprised by the high quality of these metal pieces. Their weight feels wonderful in your hand with the king approaching 300 g . I was looking for a chess set worthy of my minimalist coffee table and I found this set paired with the 18" marble chessboard (57mm quare size) to be the best fit. The simplicity, elegance and quality of the craft and the materials are beyond what the pictures can convey and even the small surface imperfections, barely noticeable on a superficial inspection, add character to these hand crafted chessmen.
