The Dubrovnik pieces are both aesthetic and functional; it is easy to see why they have become a timeless classic. The squat design makes even the unweighted pieces difficult to knock over. The mahogany stained ones go very nicely with the 55mm-square rosewood/maple board.
I have noticed comments elsewhere about quality control issues at RCM, but in my experience their craftsmanship is of a consistently very high standard, with painstaking attention to detail. Their customer service too is second to none. Enquiries are dealt with promptly, efficiently and courteously.
In short, if you are looking for high quality chess products backed by speedy and efficient service, RCM is the place to go.
This is another nearly perfect set like my former purchased "Dubrovnik/antiqued boxwood" set( which is weighted). This set in natural boxwood and mahagony stained boxwood is not weighted and superb for traveling and vacation. Yes i like it a lot because its Dubrovnik (my favourite kind of pieces) and so near to the original ones of 1950's chess olympiade. Thanks for the best service

I love these unweighted Dubrovnik pieces, a reproduction of the original Dubrovnik, which was unweighted (and as such favored by Bobby Fisher for travel). One of the greatest chess sets ever made, I recommend buying it along with the incredible Dubrovnik folding board, also a faithful historical reproduction. The board can store these pieces. If there is one tiny thing about the Dubrovnik design, it is that the King lacks a cross, and thus can be confused with the Queen, who has the same little ball on her crown. This isn't Royal Chess Mall's fault; this is a small issue that I personally have with the original design. When the original was designed, in 1950, few if any Soviet-bloc chess sets had religious symbols.
A winning rendition of the ultimate classic: the official chess set of the first "modern", i.e.post WW-II, chess olympiad at Dubrovnik (Yugoslavia) in 1950. The stuff of legends!
Sharing Bobby Fischer's fascination for this type of set, I consider it to be at the pinnacle of the evolution of chess pieces design.

I also have the NOJ version. But this RCM Dubrovnik has the better feel, the vintage look of mahogany stain is a winner, especially the knight!!
My childhood dream was always to have a set of "Bobby Fischer chess pieces" and I think all his fans would agree with me too.

I've been wanting this chess set for the past 10 years and finally purchased it for Christmas. Great Craftsmanship, and great price. I previously purchased the 1970s Reykjavik peices this same time last year from Royal Chess Mall.
There are some minor manufacturing defects, but it's not critical. Rather I am so picky. This is a wood product. And it is handmade. So it's ok. :)
