The pieces have a unique and slender design which isย aesthetically pleasing in their elegance. Wide Bases and sleek tops consistent in king, queen, and bishop make it a fresh change from the traditional Staunton chess set & Staunton chess pieces
Knights are unusually large with their manes only on one side. The pieces have been double-weighted using a combination of iron and lead studs to improve their playability on the chess board.

Beautiful designed chessmen

Just received my second set of chessmen from Royal Chess Mall, the 1950s Soviet Latvian set. Delivery and packaging were impeccable, just like the first time. The design and craftsmanship are beautiful and I canยดt keep my eyes off them. If I give only four and not five stars it is because the knights are not weighted enough (unlike my first set, the 1960s Soviet Championship Tal set, which is superbly weighted). Lack of sufficient weighting makes the knights kind of shaky. This could easily be remedied by enlarging the knightยดs base to make it resemble the bishopยดs. In that case there would be enough space for sufficient iron or lead inside. In addition, some pieces were not entirely flat at the bottom. The felt seems to have been glued in a hurry, without enough attention to detail. Having said that, these are minor issues, the set as such is beautiful and I love playing with it.

I will admit, that I was skeptical because there was no reviews. But this is one of the best purchases I have made this year. The pieces have a nice weight and they are beautifully crafted. I was supposed to receive it by August, but arrived in less than a week. I will buy again from ROYALCHESSMALL.

Paquet arrivรฉ rapidement et parfaitement protรฉgรฉ. Il est cependant regrettable quโ€™une boite en bois (mรชme simple) ne soit pas livrรฉe ร  lโ€™appui de ces piรจces pour les ranger. Pour le reste, trรจs belle qualitรฉ de finition.

After watching the Queens Gambit series I wanted this set at all costs.
I got the ebonised B/W .
1950's Soviet Latvian is a classic, slim, minimalist, elegant set.
Very beautiful yet particular Knight . Very fat rook in contrast.
This was my 2nd purchase, here.
