3.9" Juego de Ajedrez Francés de Torneo Chavet - Sólo Piezas de Ajedrez - Teñido de Caoba y Madera de Boj

I can't say enough good things about this set. First of all, the Chavet pieces are just about perfect in terms of what I look for from any chess set. The design of the knight is gorgeous even while remaining sleek, unpretentious, and classy. I tend to shy away from knights that are too ornate. I also love the design of the bishop, and appreciate the parity of the bishop and knight. The rook has an easily identifiable shape and goes well with the set. I particularly love that the queen is subtantially taller and more prominent than the bishops (one pet peeve is sets where a bishop approaches queen size!). She is definitely shorter than the king, yet her crown is only slightly lower than the flat of the king's. What a powerful and imposing lady. Lastly, the king is also sleek, simple, and unassuming, but elegant and classy. His cross is just right. All together, these pieces balance and complement one another to make one of the best sets I can think of.

Next, RCM's execution is perfect. Each piece is carved beautifully, the dark pieces' stain is well-done, and the weight/feel of the pieces is great. I highly recommend this set. Not that it matters, but I think it's cool that the knights are carved from a single piece. I can tell from the grain of the wood and attached a photo.

Note: I acquired this from Royal Chess Mall as part of a warehouse clearance deal. Nice value!

Excellent quality for the price. The weight is satisfying and not too heavy. Though I wish the seller listed cleared dimensions of the pieces in the listing. Maybe it was listed, but I struggle to find details in Etsy listings.

Todo correcto, sin problema

Another great set, that was popular at top level chess in the 1980's and 1990's. This set is a much loved version of the classic Staunton done in a simple and elegant way that is lovely to play with. Thanks RCM for another wonderful job.
