19世紀初頭頃、チェスショップで一般的に販売されていたクラブサイズの英国製アップライトチェスセット。私たちの複製品は、ロンドンのWilliam Leucharsが販売したアップライト・セットを元にしています。(写真提供 www.chessantiquesonline.com)

このデザインは200年近く前のもので、現在の伝統的なStauntonデザインよりも古いものです。
ノーザン・アップライト（またはエジンバラ）チェス・セットは、スタントン・パターンの先駆けとして人気があり、最初のスタントン・デザインに部分的に影響を与えたと考えられている。
