These pieces are just gorgeous. The grain and finish on the rosewood pieces is exquisite. The carving on all the pieces is finely detailed and beautiful. The weighting is great. It is a handsome set that I feel compelled to leave set up and on display. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased.

I received this email requesting a review at the very moment I was opening the pack that I received from Royal Chess.
I actually received the package a couple weeks ago, but delayed opening it until I brought it to our cabin in Northern Minnesota where I intend to use the chess set on a chess table that is part of our deck furniture.
My first impression was how well the package was wrapped for protection and security. The inside of the shipping box is completely lined with Styrofoam sheeting. The White pieces and the Black pieces are in their own separate plastic bag with a anti-moisture gellpack. Each individual piece is also securely wrapped in a piece of Styrofoam sheeting.
I have to admit that I was astonished by the quality and detail of the carving and finish on each chess piece..... Especially the Knight.... Even the Rooks "castle" has sharp clean corners. The crown on the Queen(s) comes to distinct sharp points...
There is a very satisfying weight to each piece that keeps it stable in place. The finish on each piece is smooth and apparently very durable.
I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase... and, I must admit, very pleasantly surprised.
