Il set originale di Dubrovnik è stato realizzato negli anni Cinquanta e Sessanta nel laboratorio del famoso maestro intagliatore Jakopović. Questi sono i pezzi che Bobby Fischer ha dichiarato essere i suoi preferiti, è la scacchiera con cui lo vediamo analizzare in vari documentari e fotografie. Egli disse: "Penso che sia il miglior set di scacchi su cui abbia mai giocato. È una gioia giocarci, una gioia tenerla in mano, la definizione dei pezzi, il design... è un set meraviglioso, ma è molto difficile da ottenere, io non ce l'ho".

Bellissimi pezzi

I pezzi della collezione Dubrovnik sono al tempo stesso esteticamente gradevoli e funzionali; è facile capire perché siano diventati un classico senza tempo. Il loro design tozzo rende difficile rovesciarli, anche quando non sono appesantiti. Quelli tinti in mogano si abbinano perfettamente al tavoliere quadrato da 55 mm in palissandro e acero.

I have noticed comments elsewhere about quality control issues at RCM, but in my experience their craftsmanship is of a consistently very high standard, with painstaking attention to detail. Their customer service too is second to none. Enquiries are dealt with promptly, efficiently and courteously.

1950 Dubrovnik/non ponderata

This is another nearly perfect set like my former purchased "Dubrovnik/antiqued boxwood" set( which is weighted). This set in natural boxwood and mahagony stained boxwood is not weighted and superb for traveling and vacation. Yes i like it a lot because its Dubrovnik (my favourite kind of pieces) and so near to the original ones of 1950's chess olympiade. Thanks for the best service
to the royal chess mall team and the very fast shipment.

I love these unweighted Dubrovnik pieces, a reproduction of the original Dubrovnik, which was unweighted (and as such favored by Bobby Fisher for travel). One of the greatest chess sets ever made, I recommend buying it along with the incredible Dubrovnik folding board, also a faithful historical reproduction. The board can store these pieces. If there is one tiny thing about the Dubrovnik design, it is that the King lacks a cross, and thus can be confused with the Queen, who has the same little ball on her crown. This isn't Royal Chess Mall's fault; this is a small issue that I personally have with the original design. When the original was designed, in 1950, few if any Soviet-bloc chess sets had religious symbols.

A winning rendition of the ultimate classic: the official chess set of the first "modern", i.e.post WW-II, chess olympiad at Dubrovnik (Yugoslavia) in 1950. The stuff of legends!
Sharing Bobby Fischer's fascination for this type of set, I consider it to be at the pinnacle of the evolution of chess pieces design.
Amritsar craftsmen at Royal Chess Mall have successfully ressuscitated this "extinct species." THANK YOU!

My childhood dream was always to have a set of "Bobby Fischer chess pieces" and I think all his fans would agree with me too.
Buying this wonderful set at the Royal Chess Mall fulfilled a long-time dream of someone who always wanted to have this beautiful Chess set that they saw in the documentaries about Fischer.

There are some minor manufacturing defects, but it's not critical. Rather I am so picky. This is a wood product. And it is handmade. So it's ok. :)
