Fantastico set della classica versione Staunton. I pezzi danno una sensazione di solidità quando li si tiene in mano ed è un vero piacere giocare con essi. La qualità delle finiture è eccellente, nonostante le piccole e graziose imperfezioni che si notano osservandoli da vicino, ma è proprio questo che conferisce a questi pezzi artigianali un’anima tutta loro.

A lovely set, obviously Staunton-inspired, but with a number of differences, notably the knights and the king's finial. I was initially unsure of the flamboyant knights, but they are easy to move and not too difficult to handle, while the finial is very delicately done. In my opinion, though, the real stars are the rooks - solid and sturdy, and well-weighted like all the other pieces.
The bud rosewood is a stunning reddish-brown, and very pleasing on the eye. The standard of craftsmanship is quite exquisite.
The set I bought was 'slightly imperfect'. I spent quite a while trying to spot the slight imperfection, but all I could find were some rough edges on the felt, easily remedied by a couple of minutes with nail scissors!
It speaks volumes for RCM's quality control standards that they consider a virtually perfect set 'imperfect'.

I bought this travel chess set as a keepsake for my recently deceased father, almost as if it were a final gift from him, as his passing occurred just a few days before my birthday.
I was looking for a functional chess set that I could easily take with me anywhere. I was immediately attracted by the photos of this model on the Royal Chess Mail website, after hesitating between it and their folding travel chess sets. What appealed to me here was the complete box, which closes securely, as well as the drawers for storing the pieces. This avoids having to store the pieces inside the board itself, as is the case with folding travel sets.
You can also play or replay games from books or annotated collections by placing the pieces along the edges of the board or on the top section of the box. It is genuinely practical.
The pieces have a classic Staunton design, with bishops featuring an almost vertical slit. The proportions between the pieces are perfect, with a special mention for the knights, which are particularly well crafted. This is quite rare with pieces of this size, and even more so for a travel set.
The case is beautiful, both open and closed. It would look perfectly at home on a desk, for example. It is fairly substantial and quite heavy, so carrying it around every day in its current form may not be ideal. However, Royal Chess Mail also provides a small pouch for storing the pieces. I think I will look for a protective sleeve for the board so that I can safely carry it in a backpack or briefcase.
I think this format is actually perfect for travelling: a single, non-folding piece, ideal for placing on a train or airplane tray table, even if it sticks out slightly. In my opinion, it is more practical than a folding travel chessboard.
The woods used are of very high quality. The golden rosewood used for the pieces is beautiful, with a lovely combination of light and dark grain. The chessboard has a matte finish, which does pick up fingerprints a little, but it cleans easily with a soft cloth.
The colours of the squares are perfectly harmonious with the pieces: neither too dark nor too light, with no visual fatigue or distracting contrast when playing or reading a position.
The pieces slide nicely across the board when you want to move quickly, replay variations or work on openings, for example. The pieces are magnetic and stay firmly in place, but the magnets are just the right strength. They are not excessively strong, as is often the case with magnetic chess sets. Here, you never have any difficulty lifting a piece from its square because of the magnet.
In fact, the Royal Chess Mail team has got the balance absolutely right. You could almost think that the pieces are slightly weighted. This is the first time I have experienced this with a magnetic chess set, and it makes the set particularly pleasant to use.
The proportions of the pieces relative to the squares are perfect — as you can see in the photos with four pawns on a single square, or the rook lying down on the board. If I were to be extremely picky, perhaps the King’s base takes up just a little too much space on its square. But in actual use, this is not an issue, and the proportions remain perfectly logical in relation to the other pieces.
This set has a very high symbolic value for me because it was, in a way, my father’s final “gift”. It fits perfectly into my collection, and not only as a travel set. I have to admit that its practical storage and its ability to sit neatly on my desk mean that it sometimes replaces my traditional size 5 or 6 sets when I want to replay historical games or work on my chess.
Now I just need to find a beautiful carrying case or a small attaché case for the chessboard to make it easier to transport.
What a beautiful set created by Royal Chess Mail, exactly in keeping with its minimalist name and elegant gift edition. It is a magnificent object that will appeal to anyone who appreciates beautiful chess sets and beautifully crafted pieces.
I had already loved Royal Chess Mail’s unweighted Dubrovnik set with the folding chessboard case, and once again I am extremely satisfied with my purchase.
And I almost forgot to mention the excellent packaging: everything was very well protected, and the shipping and delivery were both fast. Their chat service is also excellent, with consistently quick responses and very good advice.
One final suggestion: if I were to make another purchase from Royal Chess Mail right now, it would be incredible if the team created a small-format travel set featuring the Dubrovnik-style pieces.

Splendidi Pesci

Perfect handmade chess board. High quality finishes, no sharp edges or between squares, and all joints are polished. The surface is a little shiny but perfect to play.
Shipment package is very good protecting the board properly. Foam is placed along the edges and on both faces.
I asked them to stick a fragile sticker to avoid problems during transport (by plane, by truck,...), this trick usually works quite well.
Communication with the company was perfect, answering very fast and solving the doubts.

Beautifully made pieces, crafted with attention to detail and whose antique effect captures the spirit of the 19th century. They are solid and sturdy, perhaps not ideal for playing blitz, but they were probably never intended for that 180 years ago! My pieces were 'slightly imperfect', but close inspection revealed only a very minor mark (about 1mm in size!) on the white king's crown and on the underside of a black piece, not the sort of blemishes you would notice unless you were an obsessive stickler for detail, in other words nothing to worry about.
Come sempre, i pezzi sono arrivati tempestivamente e in un imballaggio indistruttibile.

The board has an attractive golden palissander -and-maple appearance with good color contrast that makes the pieces easy to distinguish. The wood grain is appealing and the border is neatly finished, giving it a classic look. The square size appears well matched to the Botvinnik–Flohr pieces (which I purchased as well), resulting in a balanced playing surface. Very elegant together.

I purchased the 3.9" Craftsman Knight Golden Rosewood together with the 20" Legacy Golden Rosewood Luxery Chess Board to match the set. Even though the delivery had a few issues with FedEx the items arrived really well packaged. I have to say that after a lot of research wanting a quality chess set, you cannot go wrong with Royal Chess Mall products. The craftsmanship it is next level, the only reason I gave 4 stars is because some of the Golden Rosewood are much lighter than the rest. See the 2 knights. I understand that it's due to timber shades but they could match the sets better to get an even colour. I am tempted to get now a larger set...

Un set da scacchi davvero splendido. È un bellissimo elemento decorativo per il nostro tavolo. Le venature del marmo sono davvero uniche e raffinate.

Mi sto appassionando ai set da 3,25 pollici. Questo set Reykjavik è il terzo della mia collezione. Cosa mi piace di questo set? È un set che puoi portare al club, in un bar, in un caffè e persino a casa. È un buon modello Staunton che non presenta caratteristiche di design che possano creare confusione. È più piccolo e leggero, o di peso pari ad alcuni set da torneo. Eppure è abbastanza grande da non urtare gli altri pezzi mentre si gioca una partita. Si adatta perfettamente a una scacchiera con caselle da 2 pollici / 50 mm, come si vede nella mia foto. L’unico lato negativo del set sono le torri: la parte superiore sembra estremamente fragile, con intagli profondi e un parapetto sottile. Si romperanno sicuramente anche con un impatto minimo. Questa è la caratteristica peggiore del design Reykjavik: un design delle torri davvero scadente. Non consiglierei di giocare a Blitz con questo set. I cavalli hanno un design da cartone animato e non rispecchiano il design dei cavalli del Reykjavik 72 WCC. Si tratta quindi di un design più leggero, caldo e accogliente rispetto a quello del 72. Nel complesso è un set di buona qualità per partite occasionali e forse per l’analisi, ma a mio parere è appena un po’ troppo grande per l’analisi.

Eccellente bosso laccato invecchiato; le parti colorate riproducono fedelmente la tonalità del legno esotico: il Purpleheart, molto apprezzato per il suo colore viola naturale, che si trova solo nel cuore del continente americano ed è molto ricercato dai collezionisti. Un set molto comodo ed ergonomico.

Bellissimi pezzi Pro Staunton da 4,1“ realizzati in palissandro zavorrato che offrono una sensazione piacevole al tatto quando abbinati alla scacchiera HDMR da 21” in acero verde. Una cornice perfetta per questi capolavori!

I purchased these 2.8” Golden Rosewood Tournament Staunton Chess Pieces together with Royal Chess Mall’s 16" Walnut & Maple Printed Chess Board – Matte Finish Tournament Board (with 40 mm squares), and the combination has exceeded my expectations.

Le proporzioni sono eccellenti. Si tratta di pezzi compatti, ma che conservano comunque l’aspetto e la sensazione di un vero set Staunton da torneo, piuttosto che di un set da viaggio. Le caselle da 40 mm sulla scacchiera da 16” si abbinano perfettamente, garantendo a ogni pezzo spazio sufficiente pur mantenendo l’ingombro complessivo compatto e ideale per una scrivania o un tavolino.

I pezzi stessi sono realizzati magnificamente. Sono ben bilanciati, stabili e offrono una sensazione soddisfacente durante il gioco. I cavalli sono particolarmente impressionanti per un set in questa fascia di prezzo, e ogni pezzo è tornito e rifinito con cura. Il palissandro dorato presenta una bellissima venatura naturale e sottili variazioni di colore, conferendo al set il calore e il carattere che solo il vero legno può offrire.

Apprezzo anche le proporzioni compatte. Risultano solidi al tatto senza essere troppo ingombranti, il che li rende perfetti per chiunque desideri un set Staunton tradizionale in legno ma non abbia spazio per una scacchiera di dimensioni da torneo.

Infine, sono rimasto piacevolmente sorpreso dal fatto che Royal Chess Mall abbia incluso delle bustine per riporre sia i pezzi che la scacchiera. È stata un’aggiunta premurosa che non mi aspettavo.

One thing buyers should be aware of is that, because these are made from natural wood, there is some variation in color from piece to piece. For example, my white king is slightly lighter than some of the other white pieces, and a few of the pawns differ subtly in tone.

Nel complesso, sono estremamente soddisfatto di questo acquisto. Cercavo un set di scacchi in legno compatto e di alta qualità che potessi godermi per molti anni, e questa combinazione è esattamente ciò che speravo di trovare. Consiglierei volentieri questi pezzi a chiunque cerchi un design tradizionale Staunton con un ingombro ridotto.

Sono completamente soddisfatto di questo set di scacchi Pro Staunton da 4,1“. I pezzi e la scacchiera da 21” sono arrivati in condizioni perfette, imballati con cura e protetti da abbondante pluriball. I pezzi in palissandro dorato sono realizzati con estrema precisione e la qualità complessiva del set è assolutamente eccezionale. Il peso dei pezzi è perfetto durante il gioco e la scatola di legno è un ottimo extra per conservare tutto al sicuro. Acquisterò sicuramente di nuovo da questo venditore in futuro!

Ho acquistato questa scacchiera da 16 pollici in noce e acero con finitura opaca insieme alle pedine Staunton da torneo in palissandro dorato da 2,8 pollici di Royal Chess Mall, e le proporzioni sono eccellenti. Le caselle da 40 mm si abbinano perfettamente ai pezzi Staunton compatti, lasciando spazio sufficiente per giocare comodamente pur mantenendo l’ingombro ridotto del set. La scacchiera è ben stabile, presenta una piacevole finitura opaca che riduce al minimo i riflessi e la combinazione di colori tra noce e acero è elegante.

Ho due piccole osservazioni per i futuri acquirenti. Innanzitutto, la mia scacchiera presenta alcune minuscole macchie nere di inchiostro su alcune caselle chiare. Si notano solo osservandole da vicino e sono invisibili durante il normale gioco, quindi non compromettono il mio divertimento con la scacchiera. In secondo luogo, il retro della mia scacchiera è beige anziché verde come mostrato nelle foto del prodotto relative alla versione da 16”. In realtà il beige non mi dispiace, ma vale la pena sottolineare che il colore del retro potrebbe variare rispetto a quello delle foto.

Nel complesso, sono molto soddisfatto di questo acquisto. Si abbina magnificamente ai pezzi Staunton compatti, sta benissimo su una scrivania o su un tavolino da caffè e lo consiglio vivamente.
