I'm very glad I bought this set. It's so beautiful - even my grumpy teenage son said "that's a really nice chess set" when he saw it. The design is clean and modern (much nicer than a Staunton) and the pieces are large and well made (the only workmanship issue is slight asymmetries in the knights' tiny heads, but this is barely noticeable). The set feels really nice in the hand, particularly the pawns which have a nice bottom-heavy swing when you move them. It's so pretty that it's now on permanent display on my kitchen peninsula, where everyone can see it.
The size is nice - the pieces are tall (nearly 10cm kings) and the board is thick, broad and quite heavy. The workmanship on the board also seems good. The squares don't have frame around them, so I thought the board might have a bit of flex and was worried about its durability, but it feels good and sturdy and it has a high finish - I can only feel a very faint join between a few of the squares (otherwise the edges are perfectly smooth).
Overall, I love it. It's nice to play with, seems well built and is very, very pretty. 5/5

I am very happy with the chess set I have received from Royal Chess Mall. The board is beautiful and so are the pieces. It is not absolutely perfect - and I did not expect it to be, as it is hand-crafted from real wood. So, if you extensively examine the board and each piece, you will find what you might call some small flaws, tiny knots in the wood, or perhaps one or two pieces that are a slightly different shade to the others, but nothing that would detract from the overall enjoyment of admiring and using the set. And I think the price is very fair for what you get, with the 20% discount I was able to secure (just write to them and ask). Free shipping too. So, all in all, highly recommended. I am already tempted to buy a second set of a different design, although I absolutely do not need it and don't have the space for it! Mhm, maybe as a birthday present for my godson...

I am totally thrilled with this chess set which I asked for as my main Xmas present. The quality of the set and board is fantastic and the packaging was also top notch. Would highly recommend this seller. The set is taking pride of place in my lounge. It is a beautiful piece of modern art as well as my favourite game.
