The Piatigorsky Cup Reproduced Chess Set is a tribute to one of the most prestigious tournaments in chess history, held in 1963 and 1966. Organized by Gregor and Jacqueline Piatigorsky, these events brought together legends like Bobby Fischer, Boris Spassky, and Tigran Petrosian, marking an era of unmatched competition. This reproduction captures the elegance of the original design, which featured a 5-inch King, a size chosen for its presence and visibility in high-level play.
The pieces are crafted from durable boxwood with a rich mahogany stain in a matte finish, paying homage to the original sets, which were made from mahogany wood. The detailed carving, especially the expressive knights, and the perfectly weighted pieces ensure both beauty and functionality.
This set is not just a playing tool but a piece of chess history, making it ideal for collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate the artistry and significance of iconic tournaments.
