This is my second set from Royal Chess Mall, and both have shown excellent craftsmanship and value compared to other merchants. I will continue to shop from RCM when looking for wooden pieces.
I think this set actually looks amazing on my standard green and white roll up tournament board! It is my preferred set to travel with if I am playing slower time controls. With the knights lacking protruding ears or manes and and the kings having rounded finials, the set is robust enough to travel with if I don't except really rough play (I'd still take a plastic set for blitz play). YT chess reviewer Al Su feels the same way.
I did have a pawn crack sometime in the first few weeks, but RCM stood by their warranty and rapidly replied to my email. It did take a few weeks for the piece to ship so I suppose the piece had to be manufactured, but I am happily playing with a complete now.

A beautiful set, worth the price; well actually, this is one of the most affordable Dubrovniks, thanks to Royal Chess Mall. This is a robust set, very nice in an actual game.
Now for the nit-picking. Only a couple of very minor things. First, i think the original Dubrovnik has Rooks with only 5 merlons, representing the 5 regions or provinces in former Yugoslavia (...could be wrong with geography here) ... however, this reproduction has 6 merlons on the Rooks. And last, the lines on the Knight's face are cut a bit deep, i think, also the edges are quite sharp; these could be softened a bit.

Ik heb mijn schaakset in recordtijd ontvangen, en de stukken zijn zelfs nog zwaarder dan in de advertentie stond. De koning weegt ongeveer 78 gram, de koningin 71 gram, de toren 50 gram en het paard zo’n 60 gram. De kwaliteit is geweldig – het is een genot om met deze stukken te spelen en ze zijn werkelijk indrukwekkend om te bewonderen. Het vakmanschap is duidelijk te zien.
Ik had maar één klein minpuntje: een van de torens was niet zo goed gebeitst. Ik heb de klantenservice een e-mail gestuurd en ze reageerden meteen, hebben het probleem bekeken en lieten me weten dat ze me meteen een vervangende toren zouden sturen. Uitstekende service.
Dit is het tweede schaakspel dat ik bij hen heb gekocht, en ik heb er geen spijt van. Ze nemen hun werk serieus en dat is te merken. Een echte aanrader.

I had been casually collecting chess sets over the years, albeit cheap, barely playable sets made with coarse design and cheap materials. Recently, I've found my interest in collecting chess sets renewed, but now for the more elegant pieces crafted from finer materials — the sorts of chess sets that one can proudly gift to a younger enthusiast or bequeath as a family heirloom. This Dubrovnik set is no exception, and just the unboxing experience earlier this evening made me feel as though a part of chess history had reached forward from the past to touch me in the present. My hope of acquiring an original 1950 Dubrovnik set are beyond remote, yet having even a facsimile like this set allows me to experience what the original pieces might have felt like (but for the extra weight incorporated in these modern pieces, which is an attribute modern players have come to expect).
I purchased the Mahogany-stained boxwood and Natural boxwood pieces. These pieces are elegant, yet possess a substantial heft which makes them more stable on the chessboard. Their finish is polished to a gleaming satin without any distracting glare. The green felted base pads ensure that as the pieces come down onto a chessboard, no abrasion or other aggressive contact mars either the pieces or the board. I find myself continually admiring the craftsmanship in the knights, which capture just enough realism to be recognised as the iconic horse in appearance without emulating the complex visual nuance of a living horse. The execution of the 1950 Dubrovnik knight was a fine balance of simple geometry for ease of production against the aesthetic demands for a familiar equine profile.
All in all, I would highly recommend this set for anyone whose collection lacks a Dubrovnik representative. Surely not everyone will play it as their go-to set, but I believe that everyone can admire the innovation of the design while still reading it as a Staunton set with a healthy Slavic variation.

Ik was al een tijdje op zoek naar een degelijk vervaardigd, redelijk geprijsd schaakspel dat ik gewoon kon laten staan en gebruiken voor partijtjes met de kinderen of om partijen te analyseren. Hoewel ik me aangetrokken voelde tot het Staunton-ontwerp uit het begin van de negentiende eeuw, wilde ik toch iets anders. Ik keek naar een recensie van „Random Chess Talk“ en hij had een versie van de Dubrovnik van Royal Chess Mall bij de hand. Wat ik zag beviel me, dus ging ik op zoek naar versies van de Dubrovnik van andere fabrikanten om te zien hoe zij deze klassieke, goed onderzochte en historisch belangrijke set interpreteerden. Royal Chess Mall voldeed aan al mijn eisen. Bij aankomst inspecteerde ik de verpakking en vond geen problemen, afgezien van een kleine deuk die waarschijnlijk tijdens het transport was ontstaan; geen fout van RCM en de stukken binnenin waren in orde. Een paar hoogtepunten voor mij waren de brede, stevige voetjes en een bijna lineaire overgang van koning naar toren. Iets wat ik altijd een afleiding vond bij een Staunton-set, is dat de koning over het algemeen onevenredig groot is ten opzichte van de rest van de reeks. Ik juich de vernieuwde toren toe, die trouwer is aan het origineel, en vind het paard een van de mooiste die ik ooit in een set heb gezien. Tot slot: de set ligt goed in de hand, is goed gemaakt, heeft geen scherpe punten die afleiden tijdens het spel en is iets wat ik op een dag met trots zal doorgeven. The pieces arrived in a sealed box in seven days. The pieces were individually wrapped so as not to touch each other. The unboxing was so exciting that I felt like a child opening his Christmas gift.
I placed the pieces in a 2.5 inch square board. The pieces looked like they were ready for battle. I liked the contrast of the light boxwood pieces and the mahogany stained dark pieces, with their different shades of hue. When I moved the pieces, I felt like they were like butter sliding in a glass. It will be a real pleasure playing with these pieces.
I weighed the pieces individually. The total weight was 1,416 grams. The site declared a weight of 1,350 grams, so I was pleased with the weight of the pieces. Sometimes, I feel like I just want to hold and admire these pieces as it gives me great pleasure.
In conclusion, the pieces met my expectations. Kudos to Royal Chess Mall for providing us chess lovers with a good replica of Bobby Fischer's favorite chess set, at a good price, and excellent service.

Dit was het eerste setje dat ik bij Royal Chess Mall kocht. Er werd gezegd dat de Dubrovnik het favoriete setje van Bobby Fischer was. Ik begrijp wel waarom.
The RCM set was beautifully done- superb craftmanship, great colors great to look at- but even better to hold in hand and play. What Fischer said about just holding the pieces in hand is a joy could not be truer. Super solid pieces and functionally probably my favorite set to play.
This set, and the quality manner in which RCM produced it, has for better or worse got me "hooked". This set was the first of what has now become five transactions with RCM- so far, each transaction has been marked by great customer service and a tremendous high- quality product that I love.

The feel of each pieces are so smooth, well balance, especially the Knight!! I have about a bunch of Dubrovnik sets from every Chessmaker! Including the noj repro, their knights looks cartoonish compared to the RCM.
Dealing with RCM was a breeze! Super friendly. HThey are serious with their products. Well priced!!

Pictures don't do this set justice. Fantastic, balanced, and symmetrical. It fits perfectly on my maple/walnut 2.25 square board. I was so pleased with this set I purchased the antiqued version a few days later. Par excellence..well done sirs.

Bobby Fischer is mijn favoriete schaker en het is echt een onwerkelijk gevoel om met een replica van zijn favoriete Dubrovnik-schaakstukken zijn partijen na te spelen. De volgende keer ga ik sparen voor jouw schaakbord. Heel erg bedankt!

Deze set lijkt sterk op de originele Dubrovnik-set uit 1950. Ik heb online onderzoek gedaan en foto’s en een paar YouTube-filmpjes gevonden. De versie van Royal Cess Mall is zeer nauwkeurig. Ik heb het vergeleken met andere fabrikanten en vond deze het beste. Het is een genot om mee te spelen. Het heeft een prettig gewicht. Het vakmanschap van de hele set en het snijwerk van de ridder zijn uitstekend. Het hout is compact en de mahonie-beits komt heel dicht in de buurt van de originele kleur. Het is leuk om te bedenken dat Bobby Fischer zo'n set had. Ik heb een opvouwbaar toernooibord met velden van 2,5 inch. Het past perfect. Ik raad deze schaakset ten zeerste aan.

I've wanted to buy a Fisher Dubrovnik set for years. This set comes the closest and the detail on the knight is incredible. The finish on every piece is like fine expensive furniture. With the discount I could finally afford the set and I believe it's actual value is way more than what I paid. Thank you Royal Chess Mall. Even though it's from India it shipped to my home in the Eastern U.S. in 5 days from completely on the other side of the earth. I highly recommend and I am very happy.

Ik heb dit prachtige schaakspel gekocht. Ik heb er eerst heel wat filmpjes over bekeken op YouTube, maar ik had niet verwacht dat het van zo’n hoge kwaliteit zou zijn! De zwarte stukken van Mohegan zijn gewoonweg fantastisch; ze hebben een prachtige bruin-paarse kleur, ik vind ze geweldig.
